It’s no wonder that Blue Moby makes such a huge impression wherever it goes, given the top-tier lineage from which it originates. If you give this collectible hybrid a little attention, it will reward you with killer yields that boast an incredible blueberry aroma. Here, we tell you all the cultivation secrets you need to know so you can enjoy this collectible gem at its best.

Blue Moby is an autoflowering and feminized collectible hybrid that started with crossing Blue Dream and Sour Diesel in order to make this already aromatic genetic even more potent. A selection from this cross was then crossed with Moby Dick, a strain renowned for its gigantic yields of extremely potent buds that even contain a bit of THCV. Finally, a selection from this cross was backcrossed with Blue Dream once again, to ensure the pungent blueberry taste and aroma in all phenotypes. Phenotype 1 particularly captures the original bud structure of Blue Dream, aided by Moby Dick for even fatter buds.

Two phenotypes

Blue Moby expresses two very specific phenotypes.

• Phenotype 1: Is short, dense and compact, with swollen calyxes that are stunning to behold. This collectible plant finishes quickly and produces massive yields. It’s definitely the one that takes the top prize, exhibiting what many consider to be the epitome of bud and calyx structure.
• Phenotype 2: Stretches a lot and does not exhibit the same super-sized calyx characteristic. In addition, it takes an extra week to start flowering and will need two or even three more weeks to properly ripen. It gets covered in much smaller calyxes, which leads to tons and tons of red pistils.

The first phenotype will produce plants that stay below 60 cm in height and don't grow very wide, so they don’t take up much space. They are the perfect choice if you have limited space available or if you are looking for discretion. The second phenotype develops a lot of lateral branching and grows much taller than the first (around 80 cm).

During cultivation, the phenotypes presented here released a variety of aromas, which included blueberry pie, blueberry syrup, and anything else blueberry you can imagine. Carbon filters struggled to keep up with this particular strain, so consider upgrading your ventilation system before you have problems with your neighbours!

Aroma of dried buds

Dried buds maintain their syrupy blueberry sweetness, while developing an earthy and woody aroma that is truly remarkable in Blue Moby's thick smoke.

Smell of the live plant

Blue Moby smells of blueberries from head to toe from the beginning of flowering. There are rich Kushy undertones that also reach your nostrils as the plant matures, although the sweet blueberry pungency is the clear sign that someone has a Blue Moby in their grow. Certain phenotypes are sweeter, while others express more sour and even menthol aromas on the live plant.

Blue Moby takes the prize for the most beautiful bud structure, with gigantic, snow-covered beasts that display all the colours of the aurora borealis. The oversized calyxes of the first phenotype are impressive, and the thousands of red pistils covering its sister result in gorgeous buds.

Blue Moby produces a strong body sedation, as well as a mental rush. This is certainly not a strain for those with low tolerance! This hybrid will hit you right behind the eyes before travelling to your cheeks and then throughout your entire body. While there is extreme body relaxation, this does not mean that the effect leaves you couch-locked. There is still a certain stimulation that keeps the mind active, and it’s easy for you to go about your day with your head in the clouds.

All plants produced well, about 150g+ each. However, the short and sturdy phenotype produced the largest yield (over 200g per plant).

Blue Moby is an incredibly easy seed that, as our tests show, will produce huge amounts of potent collectibles even with the smallest amount of nutrients. This means that Blue Moby is not a plant that requires heavy fertilisation, despite producing killer yields. Defoliation is critical for several reasons, but mainly to help maximise yield, and therefore we recommend you familiarise yourself with this technique.

Flowering Period

The first phenotype took a relatively short time to finish, about 75 days. However, the second phenotype would probably do better with a full 90 to 100-day cycle for optimal results. That said, the yield of both strains is worth the wait if you can afford the longer flowering time. The second phenotype also needs an extended pre-flowering period and should be given enough time to mature properly so you can truly see what it has to offer.

Vegetative Stage

The first phenotype of Blue Moby will only take 4 weeks before intense flowering begins to happen. The second phenotype can start showing signs of flowering at 5 weeks, but it won’t start picking up the pace until weeks 6 or 7.

What nutrients does Blue Moby need?

These plants were grown in generic potting soil with NPK 1.8-2-2. 1g of dolomitic lime per litre of soil was used as a source of calcium and magnesium. Although they didn’t require nutrients beyond what was already in the soil during the vegetative phase, these plants accepted all additional nutrients given to them. Extra phosphorus and potassium are recommended during flowering to boost yields and enhance potency.

Tips for Indoor Growing

Indoor growers will also benefit from a lot of defoliation. Larger pots are also recommended to minimise watering frequency at the end of flowering. You need to keep in mind that Blue Moby drinks water like crazy at the end of its maturation.

Tips for Outdoor Growing

A lot of defoliation of both phenotypes will be necessary to obtain maximum yield. This beauty has a ton of nodes, which translates into gigantic yields, but they need a lot of support. The first phenotype generally does a good job of supporting itself, while support for the second phenotype is definitely a must.

Tips for Small Growers

If you are dealing with a small space, it might be worth planting several seeds and then selecting the first phenotype and discarding the second. You will lose nothing and will benefit from the highest possible yields of the best buds. This is easily done, as you can distinguish the two phenotypes early in flowering.
